James Humberstone : Executive Member (Sibelius Helpdesk), MAGA National Executive
James Humberstone grew up in the Lake District, in the north west of England. He composed from a young age and by the time he began studies at Exeter University for a bachelor in music he had had many large-scale works performed around the country. After graduating he worked for 6 months for the Halle Orchestra, as copyist to the resident composer, before migrating to Australia in 1996.
Today James works in Sydney as a copyist, composer, teacher, and handles the Australian support for Sibelius Software on behalf of Intelliware Australia and MAGA. He has been the copyist of choice for Warner Chappell for four years, and has worked closely on projects with some of Australia's finest composers, privately and through Symphony Australia. James also works regularly for overseas publishers.
James is one of the composers-in-residence at the MLC School, and is commissioned regularly to write music specifically for young ensembles. He is about to complete a Masters in music (composition) at the university of Sydney, and 2003 will herald the conclusion of several large projects, including premieres of the Jonathan Mills opera, "The Eternity Man", on which James has worked as copyist, and his own Requiem, for choir, string orchestra, and solo cor anglais.
