Brisbane based, 'Pro-Muso' Mick is well respected throughout Australia
as a professional doubling reed player & Big Band arranger/director.
Originally from England, Mick migrated to Western Australia with
his family and settled in Bunbury where he commenced his musical
career playing in the local brass band.
In 1973 Mick joined the Australian Army Band Corps and studied
at the Army School of Music, Balcombe, Victoria. After a facial
injury Mick made the switch to reeds and was transferred to Brisbane
where he was fortunate to befriend many of Queensland's active pro
musicians. During his time in the Australian Army Band Corps, Mick
toured with various ensemble to places as; USA, Hawaii, England,
New Guinea. At the completion of his time in the army Mick was employed
as a session player & live band performer where his interest
in arranging became apparent.
Mick has performed with artists such as; Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones,
Shirley Bassey, Peter Allen, Lou Rawles and countless Australian
singers & musicians.
During the days of live television Mick shared his talents as
a performer and arranger with all three Queensland television stations
to work on many varied on air specials and regular tonight style
shows.
Theatre work has included professional seasons of Gypsy, Annie,
Guys & Dolls, Fame & similar.
Mick continues his long association with the Allan Brown Big Band
as the bands arranger & lead alto player, writing all genres
of available for the modern big band.
Currently Mick is teaching & writing charts for advanced student
ensembles whilst doing a little freelance gig work.
